A reed diffuser balances two things: how fast the oil is used, and how well the scent fills the room. If the oil travels up the reeds too slowly, the room won't be scented well.

As a guide, a 200ml reed diffuser lasts around 1 to 6 months and a 100ml around 1 to 3 months, depending on the room, airflow and how many reeds you use.

Want a lighter scent that lasts longer? Take out a few reeds. Fewer reeds means the oil goes down more slowly.
