Why does my diffuser seem less powerful over time?Updated a month ago

Why does the scent output seem weaker than when the diffuser was new?
Our Element diffusers use a small precision air pump to atomise fragrance oil and disperse it into the air. Over time, it’s normal for the airflow from these pumps to change slightly with regular use. This can make the scent output feel a little softer compared to when the diffuser was brand new.

Why does this happen?
Inside the diffuser is a small air pump (commonly a rotary vane or centrifugal style pump). These pumps rely on moving components and tight air seals to generate airflow. With normal use over time:

  • Internal vanes or impellers can experience minor wear from constant rotation.
  • Seals and gaskets that maintain air pressure can gradually lose a small amount of efficiency.
  • Bearings and internal friction surfaces naturally wear as the pump runs repeatedly.
  • Carbon brush or motor components (in some pump designs) slowly wear through normal electrical operation.

As these components age, the pump may produce slightly less airflow than when it was new. Because scent diffusion relies on airflow to atomise and disperse the fragrance oil, a small reduction in airflow can make the diffuser feel less intense.

This behaviour is common across many small pump-driven appliances and is a normal characteristic of their engineering.

Is this normal for diffusers?

Yes. Any diffuser that relies on an internal air pump will experience small performance changes over time as the pump components age. This does not indicate a fault with the device.

Does this mean my diffuser is faulty?
No. A gradual reduction in intensity is a normal part of the lifespan of air-pump-based diffusers.

How can I adjust the scent strength?
You can easily increase the fragrance output using the Kirri app. Simply increase the intensity level or working cycle to compensate. The diffuser is designed with adjustable settings so you can maintain the scent strength you prefer over time.

Will this affect the lifespan of the diffuser?
No. Adjusting the intensity in the app is part of normal operation and is the recommended way to tailor the scent strength for your space.

What if the output still seems unusually weak?
If adjusting the intensity does not achieve the result you expect, please contact our support team. We’re always happy to help troubleshoot and make sure your diffuser is performing as intended.
